Yeah, I feel the same about Studio Ghibli films. It's somehow really gratifying to see other people have watched and enjoyed more obscure titles like Denpa Teki na Kanojo, Mouryou no Hako, Aoi Bungaku and Requiem from the Darkness.

I’m watching Armored Trooper VOTOMS next week bought the whole collection on Blu Ray recently so I’m super stoked about that.Ĭlick to expand.Going through your list, I was pretty excited to see you'd watched and enjoyed a lot of the same stuff. I also have Space Runaway Ideon in my plan to watch list which apparently was a huge inspiration and influence on NGE. Also I definitely need to watch Area 88 at some point I hear great things about it. So My opinion might change on Kiki which I think it will as I’ll probably actually enjoy it this time. It definitely wasn’t one of my faves I am rewatching Kiki’s Delivery Service this year so there’s that. I did really like the animation and voice acting, and action scenes, but the environmental message really felt forced and kept getting in my way and just annoyed me. I watched Naussicaa a couple of weeks ago and well I had mixed thoughts on it I found it pretty slow and felt it dragged on too much. My opinion of Ghibli films is pretty mixed you’re right some I’ve loved, while others I didn’t like that much or just found good or ok. Yeah I’ve watched a lot of retro anime shows, films, and OVAs. I'm not as big a fan of the 1980 film, although it's worth a watch.Ĭlick to expand.Yeah I’ve watched a lot of retro anime shows, films, and OVAs. Toward the Terra tv was great- reminds a lot of Towa no Quon, actually. Second season was kind of crap, but I adore the heck out of the first season and the OVA Letter From An Abandoned Planet. I know you said retro, but.if you like the Leijiverse, try The Galaxy Railways. On Your Mark and Interstella 555 are interesting music videos. Your opinion of Ghibli films seems mixed, but Only Yesterday is a great adult film, while My Neighbor Totoro is surprisingly dark. I happen to be a complete sucker for gritty (and sometimes shitty) 80s and 90s OVAs like Interlude, Bride of Deimos, Antique Heart, Mermaid Forest, Blood Reign, Dallos, Locke the Superman: Lord Leon, Demon Prince Enma, Night Walker and The Curse of Kazuo Umezu, and old films like Demon City Shinjuku. If you like Gundam, can't go wrong with the 1988 OVA War in the Pocket. The impressive number of shows you've seen makes recommendations a bit tough. I didn’t like Rose of Versailles a bit boring, Angels Egg too confusing, Bubblegum Crisis overrated, and a few others that didn’t appeal to me.Īnyways what else do y’all recommend retro wise that I should watch? Nothing really long please I’m not good with super duper long anime shows. Princess Knight, Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, Space Adventure Cobra, The Little Norse Prince, Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Barefoot Gen 1 and 2, The Fantastic Adventures of Unico, Unico and the Island of Magic, Grave of the Fireflies, Lupin the 3rd Part 1 and 3, Fist of the North Star first four seasons, Akira, Kimba the White Lion, Black Magic M-66, and a huge number more I didn’t list. I have seen and enjoyed and completed these anime. Anyways I love retro anime and want some more retro anime it just has a huge nostalgic feel to it when you watch it. I also love a lot of newer anime too along with stuff from the 90’s to the 2020’s. I also love retro anime shows and films a lot whether it’s from 1964 with Kimba the White Lion to 1988 with Grave of the Fireflies. So um I’ve been watching Voltes V a very underrated and forgotten super Sentai mech anime series from the Mid 70’s and I love it a lot.
